End of the road for all-time great?
February 12, 2016
Super Bowl 50 took place this past Sunday night, the 7th.
“It was a good defensive game but it was boring, definitely not the outcome anyone expected as far as game play,” said Travis Wateska, 12th grade. . This game featured the Carolina Panthers and the Denver Broncos. The Panthers were led by a young quarterback who was making his Super Bowl debut, and their quarterback was Cam Newton.
The Broncos were led by an all-time great quarterback who was in his fourth super bowl, Peyton Manning. Manning had previously already won one Super Bowl and lost the other two, so he has experience in this kind of game.
“Peyton deserved to win another Super Bowl, but as far as a team effort, I believe Carolina as a team deserved it,” said Travis. The game started out in a dramatic way as the Broncos drove down the field to set up a field goal by Brandon McManus, making the score 3-0. The Panthers were then on their own 25 yard line.
Newton was sacked by Von Miller, and in the process the ball was fumbled and picked up by the Broncos for a touchdown, making the score 10-0 at the end of the quarter. In the second quarter, the Panthers scored a rushing touchdown by Jonathon Stewart to make the score 10-7. The Broncos later kicked another field goal by McManus, increasing the lead to 13-7.
The third quarter only consisted of one score, and that was a Broncos field goal by McManus, making the score 16-7. The fourth quarter was started off with a Panthers field goal by Graham Gano, bringing the score to 16-10.
The Broncos then scored a rushing touchdown by CJ Anderson to bring the scoreboard to 24-10.
The fiftieth Super Bowl of all time is special enough for some sports fans, but what stood out the most in this one is who was playing in the game. Manning was why this Super Bowl was so special. He has been playing for 18 years in the NFL. Peyton is starting to reach that point in his career where he is thinking of retirement as he is 39 years old. So what could be a better way to end a career than going out on a Super Bowl win, the greatest feeling of all time for any football player?
“I’m happy for him, he’s one of the best ever. He should retire, ending on a high note will be the perfect final touch to his career,” said Travis.
