Uniform plans fall off track
Rumors about track uniforms have some truth behind them; there will be cuts made after tryouts due to the amount of people that tryout being disproportionate to the uniform amount.
“We have 120 uniforms for track. If we have a number of people who exceed that during tryout season, there will be cuts made by the coaches,” said Assistant Principal Mr. Robertson. Robertson said that the amount of uniforms used in track is put at 120 so that the coaches can have more time to coach all players to their full potential, but denies it has anything to do with costs.
“There are a number of variables that go into a decision to cut the roster down. Money is one of them, but certainly not the only one,” said Kramer, a track coach for Osceola.
Mr. Eagleson, also coach of the track team, decided to ‘not comment’ on the issue because “it’s in the hands of the administration,” said Eagleson. Even though there are many variables to why there are only a certain amount of uniforms for the track team, one thing is very clear; if the amount of kids trying out for track exceeds 120 there will be cuts made. “150 kids took part of tryouts last year, but by the end of our first meet we had only 112 kids on the team. That may happen this year; if not, I will make Eagleson cut people. I already went through that with volleyball and I rather not do that again and deal with crying kids,” said Kramer.
Tryouts start Monday, January 26th and take place all week and all people are welcome to try out. “I’m excited to get new talent out on the track this year, and I hope that these possible cuts motivate people to show the best skill they have during tryouts,” said Kramer.
