NFL draft day dawns
Next month, several college football athletes will have their life goals achieved with the chance to play in the NFL. That means they have to be drafted by a team, and no one truly knows who will go where or what round they will be picked. With the NFL Draft being one of the most anticipated sporting events of the year, it has gained a lot of attention in pop culture. This year is another one of those years where the draft is highly anticipated. In fact, there have already been a few pop culture events so far that have made the draft even more anticipated.
This year, the NFL Draft has gained attention in Hollywood. On April 11th, 2014, the movie “Draft Day” starring Kevin Costner, Jennifer Garner, and even Sean Combs (P-Diddy) and Arian Foster, who is the Houston Texans Running Back. The movie is about a fictional Cleveland Browns General Manager who trades up to get the number 1 overall pick. It has received a 63% rating out of 100 from the website Rotten Tomatoes.
Also making news about the draft is recording artist Drake’s new single also called “Draft Day”. Drake mentions Heisman winning Quarterback Johnny Manziel, who is expected to be a first round pick by many, including Sports Illustrated. Drake is a known friend of the potential first round draft pick. Drake also samples Lauryn Hill’s hit song Doo-Wop as the background music. Andrew Inskeep, 10th grade, said “I like Drake’s new song, and I listen to it on the bus every day.”
The NFL Draft also has many wondering who the Bucs will pick with their 7th overall pick. The Bucs have also had interest in drafting Johnny Manziel, as he met with the Bucs recently. This would be a controversial move however, as the Bucs recently signed veteran quarterback Josh McCown to start next season. Also, some are against the Bucs drafting Manziel because of his character problems, as he was suspended last season for half of a game over the autograph scandal. And of course, he may be drafted before the 7th overall pick to another team.
The NFL Draft starts on Thursday, May 8th.
