Super Bowl Sunday: Denver vs. Seattle

With the big game coming up between the Denver Broncos and the Seattle Seahawks, coaching will be a big factor. One man who knows all about coaching is OHS’s  Varsity Football coach George Palmer. “It will be an interesting matchup. Denver has the best offense in the league while Seattle supposedly has the best defense,” said Palmer. Coach Palmer, who has been the head coach at Osceola for over 20 years, said Osceola has similar philosophies to the Broncos & Seahawks.  “They both try to control the football and try to avoid turnovers,” said Palmer. He also mentioned that Seattle tries to play a base defense and they don’t take many chances blitzing. “When you take chances by blitzing, you can give up big plays, and we don’t like to do that,” said Palmer.

A buzz in the news this week has been the comments made by Richard Sherman after the NFC championship game. Sherman called himself the “best corner in the game”, and called San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree a “sorry receiver”. “The comments were inappropriate; He’s a good player,” said Palmer, who thinks that the comments won’t have an effect on the game. OHS cornerback and running back Wilan Harvey, 11th grade, also saw the interview, and said “I admire Richard Sherman. He’s very outspoken and fun to watch.” “I try to use him as a role model. I always try to play like him on Friday nights,” said Harvey.

Another player who could have a big impact is Seahawks Running Back Marshawn Lynch. “He’s going to be tough to stop, but the Broncos do have a good run defense, and it’s the best part of their defense,” said Palmer. Also, the weather could be a factor on the game. This is the first Super Bowl that is in a cold weather environment that is outdoors, and there is a chance of snow during the game. “The weather could have an impact, and it could be bad,” said Coach Palmer.
