With spring at hand, the flowers begin to bloom, and the weather warms up. But people who suffer from allergies are all too familiar with the persistent sneezing, itchy eyes, and congestion that comes with the springtime season. At Osceola High School, pollen can be found everywhere from the front doors to the portables. Both students and teachers suffer from seasonal allergies. Language Arts/Journalism teacher Mrs. DeAtley, who experiences allergies speaks on what it’s like surviving the spring.
“Everyone in my family has allergies of one kind or another. And we take Zyrtec to deal with it. I have allergies to oak which really flare up during this time of year. I try to stay indoors during the springtime which is tough because I love sitting outside and playing volleyball and pickleball.”
Additionally, Senior Mia Willman speaks on some symptoms she has, as well as the impact allergies have on her school day.
“I usually have a runny nose, my eyes are watery, everything is stuffy. I take allergy medicine, or I’ll be constantly blowing my nose. It derails my focus, I’m not as focused as I could be in class. Also, most of my classes don’t have tissues. So, it’s a big inconvenience.”
