It seems as if the year has just started, and now the talk about Homecoming is already happening. With this event approaching so fast, many people are preparing not only spirit week outfits but also, the most important of them all, the Homecoming attire.
This year, Osceola’s Homecoming theme is “Under the Sea”. Spirit Week is the 16th – 20th of October. There is no dress up day for Monday the 16th because there is no school that day! The date of Homecoming game is the 21st.
To start off Spirit Week, Tuesday is Flock Day. Each class has its own theme for Flock Day; Freshmen – USA, Sophomores – Adam Sandler, Juniors-Lifeguards, and Seniors are prisoners. Students also have the option to flock with friends. Wednesday is Jersey Day, so Warriors can wear their favorite jersey. Next up is Thursday, and it is Decades Day. So go back in time and dress up as your class’s assigned decade. Freshmen are the ‘d90s, sophomores are the ’50s, juniors are the ’70s, and seniors are the ’80s. Last but certainly not least, Friday is Class Colors. Represent your grade with the colors chosen; Freshman wear white, sophomores wear orange, juniors wear blue, and seniors wear black.
Of course, days like these are not meant for everyone. Sophomore Juanfer Perez said, “I don’t really find it exciting. I don’t really want to dress up for spirit week”. There is nothing wrong with not dressing up, but there are many other students who are looking forward to this week. “I am planning to dress up every day because it’s something fun to do with my friends!” said Lexi Berglund. The themes have people ready for the week to be here. One of the most anticipated days is Decades Day. Freshman Harper Kalal says, “I am most excited for decades day because I love the vintage style and the overall look of the ’90s”. Lexi Berglund also mentioned how she thinks Decades Day will be her favorite dress up day. Even though decades day during spirit week is an Osceola tradition, and it happens every year, students still seem to look excited for it. One of the art teachers, Ms. Gucci, said “Heck yeah!” to dressing up for Spirit Week. Ms. Gucci also said she is most excited for Decades Day, too!
Even though there are some people who aren’t dressing up for Spirit Week, many people are going to the Homecoming dance. Luke Warfield, a freshman who said he isn’t dressing up for spirit week “because it is not really my thing,” said he is still going to Homecoming. “It’s a chance to have fun with my friends,” says Luke. Lexi Berglund and Harper Kalal also both said how they are going to the dance to be able to spend time with their friends and Lexi adds, “I want my first Homecoming experience to be when I’m a freshman”.
