Homework keeps coming
June 2, 2021
Starting June 9th, there will be no more tests, no more learning for 312 minutes a day, and no more draining assignments. Oh wait, there will be assignments in some classes over the summer! Even incoming freshmen get summer assignments. After 180 days of constant learning, studying, and taking notes, some students are seeing summer assignments in their summer plans. This is routine for students, so there are multiple ways that a student can complete an academic activity over the summer.
Students are enrolled in Summer Bridge and Apex Recovery who are trying to receive credits for graduation. Every summer, each grade in Florida receives a summer reading list, Florida Teens Read, English teachers use this list to keep their students’ brains sharp. According to floridamediaed.org, this list is to “…engage high school students (grades 9 through 12) in reading and reflect their interests as well as represent a variety of genres, formats, reading levels, viewpoints, and ethnic and cultural perspectives”.
Some teachers believe that summer is a time to relax from a busy school year. “A vacation is a vacation. It’s for having fun, recharging, and enjoying your summer,” one science teacher said. Other teachers’ summer assignments are just getting a book for preparation.
Summer assignments are posted on the school website.
