Where will Wilma Wander?

Ms. Wilma saves students from the morning drag.

The ever so disruptive alarm buzzing in your ear is never a pleasant sound. Along with the early morning slug-like movements. Although, for some, coffee is the only antidote to this morning hate. Luckily, students at Osceola have the ability to purchase coffee or another warm beverage at the coffee cart. Runner of the only on wheels cart (besides the café located in the cafeteria) is Ms. Wilma. A favorite for her “cheery smile, and impeccable memory for common customers” according to Amanda Weitz, sophomore, Wilma will retire this year.  This news is dreadful for some of the customers at the coffee cart. Close friend and colleague of Ms. Wilma, Mrs. Richey, explained, “It’s a love-hate feeling; I’m glad she gets to spend time with her grandchildren now. Although I wish Wilma was going to still be here, she’s a very close friend of mine”.

Mrs. Wilma has been working at Osceola for twenty four years. She not only helps with the kids in the morning at the coffee cart; she also helps in the special education classrooms.  Wilma was a part of the retirement drop program, giving her five more years until her final year. Ms. Wilma explained, “It just felt right, like the perfect time”. Her husband has been retired for nine years, and they have two young grandchildren. Ms. Wilma’s husband has been taking care of the children for some time. She continued on, “I feel like I’m missing out on the fun there”. Once teachers and assistants have retired, they can still attend games and plays with a special card. Mrs. Wilma concluded, “My face will still be seen here, for I look forward attending the plays”.
