Little Women receives critiques

Mr. Pace is proud of the cast and crew.

Briana Queen, Staff Writer

For the first time in 10 years, one of our school’s main stage productions was screened for award consideration by professional judges from the Patel Conservatory’s Broadway Star of the Future Competition. The critics left about 20 pages of critiques and praise for the musical “Little Women”. What seemed to have stood out the most to the critics, according to Theatre director Kevin Pace, was the “students’ ability to take a challenging theatrical  piece that mirrors the real world loss that we felt this past year when we lost Elise and turn it into something beautiful”. “Little Women” was nominated for five awards in three different categories:

Outstanding Lead Actress

Loretta Walker – 1st Cast Jo

Sydney Culbertson – 2nd Cast Jo

Rachael Kuruc – 1st Cast Marmee

Outstanding Pit Orchestra

Osceola Pit Orchestra

Outstanding Technical Achievement

Don Edwards – Orchestra Direction

The winners will be announced on May 12th, 2017 and will be invited to attend the awards show at the Straz Center in June 2017. The awards ceremony celebrates “artistic excellence in musical theater”. Overall, Mr. Pace is “immeasurably proud” of the cast, crew, and those who were nominated.
