Going Back to the Future
April 6, 2017
The DeLorean. It may have been a common name heard in houses of the 1980s but now the younger generations in 2017 are left asking “what?” like Kylee Brooks. In the summer of 1985 the movie ‘Back to the Future’ featuring a young Michael J. Fox, was released. Michael J. Fox went to the future (which was October 21, 2015) in his time travel car made by Doc. What kind of car was this time machine? A DeLorean. Well, now old fans of the movie could possibly be getting a blast from the past coming in 2017. The DeLorean Motor Company is allowing customers to order the car once again. The company is still early in the process but according to CNN, “The manufacturer is running late on production but expects to crank out a car per month sometime in 2017”.
Now, why after all these years is the DeLorean Motor Company starting production once again on the car? In December of 2015 the “Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act” (H.R. 2675) was inserted into a federal highway bill and ultimately signed into law. According to the DeLorean Motor Company’s official website this law allows “small companies to produce a limited number of completed replica motor vehicles that resemble the appearance of cars produced 25 years ago or more”. Although it is interesting that the car is being produced once again old fans of the movies like Mr. Futch stated “I would never buy one, I’m more of a truck guy”. Also, the company hasn’t released an official price for the DeLorean. Whether you are a hard core Back to the Future fan, a car fanatic, or a regular guy/girl you now have the option to buy a DeLorean once again. So, it is an official ‘Welcome back to the future DeLoreans’.
