PSAT results coming soon
October 25, 2016
Students will soon know what their testing score is after taking the PSAT on October 19th. The PSAT is a graded practice test for the SAT to see where improvement is needed. Students who wish not to take the test were given a free day to explore colleges that strike their fancy. This year’s PSAT was scheduled to be October 19th, bringing along mixed feelings among the student body.
As sophomore Heather Joyce stated, “I do not find the test necessary, although it is definitely helpful in preparing for the SAT and seeing where you need to improve”. Joyce states that she sees the PSAT as overrated, but it is helpful towards students. While all freshmen and sophomores are given a definite opportunity to take the PSAT, only a few juniors take the test as practice for next year’s SAT.
Heather added, “I plan on taking the PSAT my junior year as well, just for extra practice and to see where I need to improve. Not to mention I have a chance to get the National Merit scholarship”. As the day of the test approached, teachers ensured they prepared their students to perform well on the tests. Mrs. Richey commented “I and along with several other math teachers went through several practice problems and warm up that we thought would help them with the test. I do feel as if we ensured that our students were prepared for the PSAT”. While some were ready and had known what was to come, the freshman class had a little more studying to do. Freshman Diana Stepankovaya explained, “I knew what the PSAT was, but I wasn’t exactly sure what material would be on the actual test”. Even though the PSAT caused mixed feelings, it all was over October 19th. Guidance counselor Mrs. Jackson says the PSAT scores will be released before winter break.
