Registration brings mixed feelings

Casey Albert, 11th grade, registers for next year’s classes.

Students are now able to register for classes for the 2016-2017 school year. The process will take a few more weeks and guidance counselors are working with students in the library.
“I’m excited and stressed about registering for my classes next year,” said Kristin Ringuette, 10th grade. “I like to plan ahead a lot, so I like that they give us an opportunity for us to see choices for what we’ll be able to take. It’s kind of stressful because you start to realize how close next year is!” she added. Kristin believes that Osceola has a good amount of choices for electives. “I like how they have a variety such as foreign language, physical activity, drama, creative writing, art, music and even Career Academy of Seminole.”
On the other hand, Arlene Duff, 11th grade, doesn’t like having registration this early. “I feel many students are trying to figure out their schedule and personally for me, I’m trying to get into dual enrollment, but I don’t have my rest results back.” Arlene is confused on how to fill out her schedule,

“I’d rather not go through the hassle with my guidance counselor when I find out my scores and then change my schedule again. I feel like registering early ends up more work for the student.” she said. “This is making me more stressed out about my senior year; I wish we had registration later in the year, when we have a better feel of everything we have done and needed to do.”
Whether students forgot signatures, their SPC ID number, or were absent the day of registration, they are able to have the chance to register in March.

Students are able to modify their schedules later in the year, if they change their minds, according to guidance counselor Mrs. Hannigan. But there is a limit.  April 3rd, 2016 is the deadline to make a change, and it must include a parent and student-signed document submitted to the student’s counselor and approved by the counselor.
