Biology EOC shut down by county outage
Wednesday, during the biology EOC, or End Of Course exam, computer glitches caused some students a few problems. “The internet was down, and when you would try to click ‘next’ either (it) took a really long time to load, or it would say ‘wasn’t connected to the internet’,” Said Katie, 10th grade.
“The internet for all schools in the county was down,” said Mr. Wolf, the OFHS technical coordinator. “There was a bad piece of equipment that needed to be repaired.”
However, the outage was only for about five minutes, and students were eventually able to complete their test without any more interruptions. “It’s not as bad as you would think,” Mr. Wolf said. “The internet was backed up by the school server and was up and running again within a few minutes.”
Still, due to the fact that internet was down, some students had a tough time completing a few questions. “It took me about ten minutes to go from question to question,” said Madisyn, 9th grade, “while I was still working, everyone in there was talking and trying to figure out what was going on, and I could not really concentrate.”
“I think I was really lucky,” said Katie. “The internet problem started happening while I was at the end of my test. As soon as I submitted my test and logged out, I was disabled from the internet. I’m lucky I was able to finish before it had happened.”
Luckily for Mr. Thomas’ students, the internet was back up and running the next day, and students were able to finish their test without any interruptions. “I was actually a little worried because I did not want to have the same thing happen to me,” said Kaitlyn, 10th grade. “I was relieved that I was able to finish it without having the same problem as the other students.”
