On February 14th students waited on the University of Florida website as they anticipated finding out if they got into this prestigious school. Although some were deferred or rejected from the school, others were ecstatic when they received news that they would be part of the freshman 2015 class at the University of Florida.

“When I applied to UF, I didn’t except to get in and I was really excited to see my acceptance letter,” said Katie Leonard, 12th grade. The University of Florida has been Katy’s dream school and both of her parents are alumni. “I want to major in Veterinary Medicine and UF has the best program for this type of major,” said Katie. Katie is glad to keep up what she calls “the family tradition” by going to the University of Florida and is more than excited to start her education there. Katy said that if she didn’t get accepted to the University of Florida right away she would’ve attended the University of South Florida and transferred after 2 years. “Although I have toured other schools and have been accepted to numerous places, I know UF is the school for me and I feel more than lucky to be able to go there,” said Katy.

Mackenzie Patel, a 12th grader and Salutatorian, also got accepted into the University of Florida but admitted she was a little scared of the competition and feared she may not get in. “UF has been recruiting more heavily throughout the years and the competition to get in has gotten higher,” said Mackenzie. Although Mackenzie was happy to be accepted into the University of Florida, it isn’t her dream school. “Duke, Brown, and Yale were my ‘reach’ schools and I’m hoping to get into one of them,” said Mackenzie. Mackenzie states that although the University of Florida is the best school academically in her opinion, the school doesn’t offer the scholarships she’s looking for. “Although my goal is not to go to UF, my sister went there and loved it, (and) I feel very lucky to be accepted,” said Mackenzie.
