Turnout for tapping
On Friday, October 10th, Mr. Bohnet and Mrs. Ferguson went into classrooms followed by a zealous group of students cheering and clapping their way through the school. While some students looked confused when the giant mob of enthusiastic people marched into their classrooms, others beamed with delight. “I was so excited when I saw everyone come into 5th period today, I knew it was about the NHS tapping!” said Ashley Swain, 12th.
New membersof the National Honor Society were congratulated by Mr. Bohnet and Mrs. Ferguson in front of their peers. In order to get into the club, the students had to send in a detailed application of their leadership roles, grades, volunteer hours, and activities they’ve participated in during their high school career. Though it is a very prestigious honors society, many students were accepted and delighted to be part of this opportunity.
“I’m so excited to be part of something this important in school. It looks great on college applications and I have a feeling I’ll have fun with everyone in this national honors society!” said Melissa Baldino, 11th.
But being accepted was only half of the work. Students who are accepted must memorize a pledge to the society, volunteer more and be prominent leaders in the school. “We have to keep our GPA acceptable, volunteer, tutor, and be a leader rather than a follower. I think that my peers and I will be able to do all these things, though!” said Rebecca Dirks, 12th grade.
