Tick Tock Time change plan
Representative Matt Gaetz from Fort Walton Beach wants to start school after 8 o’ clock. He thinks that it will help teenagers focus on lessons and stay awake during class. Superintendents are worried about this proposal because the younger kids might end up going to school earlier than the older kids.
John-Michael Scott, 12th grade, agreed about how the superintendents feel about school starting later. “I would not like the idea of starting school later because then I would have to get out later; it also would be rough because I would be getting out of school at 4 a clock, with the middle school kids. Also I would be very tired from a long day of school, fall asleep and forget to do my homework,” he said.
Tyler Hettinger, 12th grade, agreed.
But another senior said he like the idea. “I think it would be great,” Matt Olviera said.
One junior, Justin Scott, said, “I would like the idea of waking up later, but not the idea of getting out of school later.”
Anthony Scott, 12th grade, said, “I would like waking up later but only if we get out at the same time that we would regularly.
