New teachers land at Osceola
This year, 14 new teachers arrived at Osceola High, either to replace teachers who have left, or to create new classes. Some, like Mrs. Parvin, have come from other schools, and so have experience. Others are new to teaching, having gotten their degrees just a short time ago.
Mrs. Parvin, the new American History teacher here, left Dixie Hollins High School at the end of the last school year. She had taught there for 12 years, it being the only public school she had taught at so far. She decided to leave Dixie Hollins because she wanted to experience a new school.
“It is always fun to learn new things,” Mrs. Parvin said about the change from Dixie to Osceola.
Another new teacher this year is Mrs. Brown, who is a new English teacher at Osceola. Previously, she had taught for 3 years in Pinellas County, at both Gibbs High School and Tyrone Elementary. At Osceola, she continues to work on an ongoing Master’s Degree. What she remembers most from those 3 years was Field Day at Gibbs. She saw students and teachers going from tent to tent, having fun and enjoying the day there.
Teaching English 1 and English 1 Honors here, she finds the school to be different, and is happy about it.
“The students are well behaved, and the parents partner with the teachers,” Mrs. Brown said about the teamwork at the school.
