What if I offered you a chance to earn free money? Would you take it? Unfortunately it seems like seniors at OHS are not taking advantage of this opportunity. Jacob Norton, 12th grade, said “I haven’t signed up for Bright Futures just because I’m lazy” Norton is not the only one, 248 out of 419 seniors have not signed up for Bright Futures and will not be able to receive the money, a statewide scholarship for all students planning to attend college after high school. The minimum requirements for this free money are 75 hours community service, a 3.0 GPA, your 16 required credits and a composite score of 1020 on the SAT and a 22 on the ACT. Hailey Meyers, 10th grade, said “I Signed up for Bright Futures so it can help me get into a good college” Guidance counselor, Ms. Jackson says the best advice she can offer to students is to simply sign up, this can only help you in the long run. To apply for bright futures, go to the Florida Student Scholarship Grant Program website.
