If you answered C for any of the above questions and are a Junior in high school you may be out of luck. Recently the requirements for the Bright Futures Scholarship have changed, an investigation by the Tampa Bay Times shows that students receiving the state scholarship will dramatically drop. Students that are graduating in 2014 are now required to get an 1170 on the SATs, 26 on the ACTs, obtain at least 75 hours of community service and have 3.0 or higher weighted GPA.
For one Junior at Osceola, this news was very alarming. “I need all the money for college I can get, it’s not cheap,” said Christina Darring, 11th grade. “Now that the expectations are higher, it is going to be harder for me to be able to get that scholarship,” she ended.
