For one night Osceola’s stadium will no longer be a track or football field, it will be a place to help out people with cancer. On May 3rd, FBLA will be participating in the Seminole Relay for Life. FBLA has chosen the Roaring 20s as their theme for dressing up this year.
Jen Kistemaker, 10th grade, FBLA officer, said, “The 20s will be so much fun to dress up for.” She also said, “It’s going to be so much fun.” This event will be going on all night long and you do not have to be in FBLA group to participate. The Spanish club is also involved and has a team participating.
Everyone has their own reason for wanting to participate in Relay for Life. Jen said, “My neighbor has cancer,” about why she is motivated to go to the relay for life event.
Mrs. Thompson the FBLA adviser said, “I personally am participating because my first FBLA president, my first year of teaching, when she was 22 was diagnosed with Leukemia – she found out a few weeks after getting engaged. She was such a trooper and from the very beginning had the positive outlook that she was going to beat the cancer.” Mrs. Thompson said, “I am so proud of her,” because she did win against cancer and continuing her life and beginning a family. Mrs. Thompson also said, “I also have family members that have passed away from cancer so I see Relay as a time to remember each one and their impact in my life.”
