Future Business Leaders of America students recently competed in their first competition of the year. FBLA had a lot of students who did quite well. Mrs. Thompson said, “I believe that our students were phenomenal at our competition this year.” Compared to last year, FBLA has grown so much as a group . Just last year they had 14 members and this year they have 53! Of the students in the club, 37 competed and 22 of those students placed in the top five of their categories. Six students are moving onto the state competition in Orlando April 25-28. Not only are the five students moving onto states, but Mrs. Thompson said, “We are still waiting to hear how four of our students finished in the Digital Design competition and whether or not they will move forward.” Students worked very hard to getting ready for competitions, “Some students spent hours and hours preparing for the competition,” said Mrs. Thompson. Ashley Machie is one of the students advancing to states. Ashley competed in the category spread sheet application, which deals with Excel. She said she is, “Very excited.” She is excited because, “states are in Orlando and it’s cool to see other competitors.” To prepare for the competition, Ashley said she, “Looked at all the functions on Excel and made lots and lots of tables.” If FBLA does well at State Leadership Conference/Competition in April, “then we may move on to National Leadership Conference/Competition, which this year is held out at Anaheim, CA – June 27-30,” said Mrs. Thompson.
