With only nine days left, Ms. Roush is far off from past years with donations for the Toys for Toto drive. Toys for Toto is a charity that helps animals every year around Christmas time, similar to the famous Toys for Tots. All donations go to The Humane Society of Pinellas, located in Clearwater. It is a shelter for homeless or hurt animals around the area; it is the largest shelter in Pinellas County. Osceola is helping participate in this event. Students started collecting items last week and all final items should be turned in by December 21st for delivery. This will make the 5th year that Osceola has been participating in helping the animals. Some of the things that Ms. Roush is collecting are toys, food and cleaning supplies. A more detailed list is on Humane Society of Pinellas website, you can also register for online giving through Amazon. Ms.Roush, the government teacher, is the organizer. She comments on the previous years “We have been extremely successful in the past providing many supplies for the shelter. Last year, we delivered 4 pick-ups full of supplies including several hundred pounds of food. We also had one cash donation last year for $1,000.” There is no set goal, but she stated that her first period classes are competing for a party to motivate students to participate. If you have a donation of any kind, you can give them to your first period teacher or drop them off in Ms. Roush’s portable 4.
