Worried about what the criteria are for exam exemptions or about how to exempt exams at all? Maybe you want out of a class that has been driving you mad all year so far? Well, we are now entering into the third marking period and that means that we are nearing the end of the first semester. With the first half o0f the year coming to a close, students are faced with mid-terms and other complications dealing with class changes and exam exemptions. Students are allowed to exempt three exams per semester. Deciding which exams you want to exempt can be challenging, but in some cases students are limited to which classes they want to exempt. For example, if students receive a C for a class on their report card, they are not allowed to exempt the exam for that semester. Also if a student is absent at least five times they cannot exempt any exams for the semester, as well as if there is an End Of Course exam , for the class they cannot exempt that either. Students use the exemption form given to them to exempt. Not only are exam exemptions an issue students deal with; some students may want to be switched into another class because they don’t want to be in the one that they were in the first semester. When guidance counselors are dealing with this request, Mrs. McDaniel said that, “They must fill out a course change request form. If it has the criteria that is needed to drop a class. We decide if it is a good idea on an individual basis.” Students also may be given a change in their schedule without placing a request to change it and the way they find out about this change would be “They can see their schedule on focus. They will know as soon as it is changed,” said Mrs. McDaniel. It may seem as if the end of the semester is a whole marking period away but it will come sooner than later so don’t forget to think about issues you might be faced with later in the marking period.
