Supplies

The supplies necessary include a poster board, scrapbook paper or decorative cardstock, yellow, green, and black construction paper, red, orange, yellow, green, and purple pipe cleaners, cotton balls or pom poms, straws, a mini ceramic plant pot, straws, individually wrapped Rolo candies, a hot glue gun and scissors.

Step 1

Take the large poster board and cut it in half. Take one half of the poster board and roll it into a cylinder shape. Then, hot glue the cylinder in place. Once you glue the cylinder, cut little fringes at the bottom that are about an inch apart. This will help you attach the cylinder to the poster later.

For this step, you’ll need the cylinder, the other half of the poster board, and the cardstock/ scrapbook paper. Using the other half of the poster board, cut out two circles that are bigger than the cylinder. Put one of the circles aside for later. With the other, bend the fringes on the cylinder, apply glue, and stick it to the circle. This is the brim of your hat. Then, take the cardstock and attach that to the very bottom.

Next, grab the black and yellow construction paper. With your black construction paper, cut out strips to wrap around the bottom of the hat. Then, use the yellow construction paper to cut out a hat buckle, and glue it to the hat.

Now, take the circle that was saved from earlier and cut out a hole towards the end. You can cut the circle smaller to fit the cylinder top, if necessary. Then glue the circle to the top of the hat. If needed, you can cut fringes again to help attach the circle.

Step 5

For this step, get out the rainbow pipe cleaners and the cotton balls or pom poms. Put the pipe cleaners in order and hot glue them together to form a rainbow, or you can simply twist them together. Then, add the cotton balls to the end to form clouds. Lastly, super glue the rainbow to the top of the hat.

Step 6

Now, use the straws to make a latter. You can use a whole straw for each side and put cut up straw pieces down the middle. Then, glue the latter to the side of the hat.

Use green construction paper and cut out a four-leaf clover. Put this over the hole at the top of the hat, but don’t glue it. This is where the leprechaun is supposed to fall through.

Finishing touches

Lastly, take the ceramic pot and put Rolo candies inside. This is the pot of gold. Now, the leprechaun trap is done.
