Warrior scout achieves prestigious rank

Brendan Mazza, junior, has achieved the highest rank a Boy Scout can possibly achieve – the rank of Eagle Scout. Only 7% of Boy Scout members were Eagle Scouts in 2013, according to the Boy Scouts of America website, making Brenden’s feat quite impressive.  On top of that, he finished Cub Scouts with the highest honor available, “Arrow of Light”. Brendan is now in Troup 404, and has been since he was 11 years old when he completed the Cub Scouts.
“I feel very accomplished,” said Brendan. “I’ve been working at it for the past 6 years, and it feels good to know it finally paid off.”

On top of that, Brendan built a permanent brick fire pit at Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Clearwater, which is also where Brendan’s ceremony was held April 25th. It’s 8 feet in diameter and 22 inches wide and it is also installed with 14 LED lights, which light up the walkway.
“It took three years to complete the fire pit fundraiser, which raised 3,200 dollars,” said Brendan.
The primary means for this fundraiser came in the form of a “Comedy Magic Show” put on by magician Geoff Williams in St. Catherine’s resurrection hall. Brendan had $667 left over from the fundraiser, which he donated to the church.
Brendan also had words of advice for those who also wish to achieve the rank of Eagle Scout.

.

There were moments where I wanted to give up, but determination is what being an Eagle Scout is all about,” he said.
Brendan is also in the honor society for Boy Scouts, called the Order of the Arrow, with the rank of Brotherhood.
