Kristina Zakaraite, a senior, was recognized for ‘honorable mention’ on her outstanding art piece that Mr. LoCascio submitted to the Congressional District Art Show. “Kristina received an honorable mention for her art work; I chose her piece along with four others from our school to the art show,” said Mr. LoCascio. This competition was only available for schools in the 13th Congressional district, which included Osceola High School. The piece of artwork that Kristina created and submitted was one she made in her AP studio class. “I submitted one of my concentration pieces, it was a rendering of a girl holding a frog and chemicals being spilled on her and I called it ‘Mutation,’” said Kristina. Her love for art has been a lifelong hobby that has been inspired by many artists’ work. “I look at art and I am inspired by each thing I see because each piece of art is unique in perspective and a particular opinion,” said Kristina. Her favorite artists are Stephen Quiller, Manabu Ikeda, and Ben Lustenhouwer due to their style of art that imitates the same techniques as Kristina.

“My main focus is painting, however I also love using charcoal because it produces a different type of color and texture to a piece of artwork” said Kristina. She decided to apply for this art show because she wants to show others her perspective on certain events happening around the world and in our country. “I want to show people around the world my ideas in a way that is pleasing to the eye and mind-boggling, that’s the beauty of art” said Kristina. She loves to show her idea through a paint brush, a pencil, or a pen because “it is the easiest way for me to show others the purpose to my work” said Kristina.
