Creative ceramics cluster at exhibition

On Thursday, March 19, several OHS Warriors achieved recognition by having their ceramic pieces displayed at the 2015 Ceramic and Sculpture Show at Gibbs High School. Mar Martinez, Megan Devin, Lance Madow, Errica Ferro, Rachael Dirks, Katie Peterson, Mary Margaret Jones, and Alex Ferron all had their work displayed at an exhibition sponsored by the National Council on Education for the Ceramic Arts (NCECA). “It is very rewarding to see so many of our students achieve recognition in this art show,” art teacher Ms. Wallen said. “I love it when students realize their work is of such quality that it is displayed in an art show where hundreds of people will come to view it. It gives them such confidence in their own ideas and abilities.” The students have been working on their pieces for about 3 weeks.
The winners themselves have been similarly excited about their award. “I’m excited. I’m just really happy,” Megan Devin 1th grade, said. When asked what her worked represented, Megan explained “it kind of symbolizes what I want my escape to be. Kinda shows my path away from reality.” Mar Martinez, 12th grade, said of having her art displayed “It’s nice to have it shown to the public.” Mar described her work as “it’s a little edgy because there’s metal and plaster poking into a female form.” Mar said her work represents the legend of Persephone and Hades in Greek mythology; According to Mar, the flowers are made of metal “because Hades has dominion over metals.” More artwork by Mar, Megan, and other Warrior artists can be found online at artsonia.com by searching ‘Osceola High School’.
