Tampa teen talks tunes, touring
For some, recording music in a professional studio is a dream, but for Brooke Hummel, it’s routine.
“I wouldn’t consider my life normal, and I think it has let me mature,” she begins. Brooke Hummel is a 15 year old currently signed to BNR Records in North Carolina. She has already recorded two songs, which are available to hear on BNR’s YouTube channel. While Brooke currently lives in North Carolina, she wasn’t born there; in fact, Brooke was born in Tampa, Florida.
“I lived there for six, maybe seven years,” she recalls. “There were a lot of different cultures and I made a lot of different friends, and that developed my personality.” Brooke began singing while growing up in Tampa, with the encouragement of her parents. “My dad told me that if I wanted to become a singer, I needed to start with the church.”
Brooke drew attention while singing at a charity event. Through connections, she eventually came into contact with BNR Records, where she is currently signed. So far, Brooke has released two songs, both covers; one is a cover of Carrie Underwood’s “Don’t Forget to Remember Me” while the other is a cover of Birdy’s “Skinny Love”. However, covers won’t be the only thing Brooke will be recording; Brooke plans to come out with an original song entitled “Favorite Song” which is to come out sometime soon.
Brooke also tours very frequently in North Carolina. She sings in mostly small venues, though she does not play any instruments. However, she isn’t ruling out the possibility of learning how to play one; “That is something I would be interested in doing,” she said.
Brooke also has advice for those who aspire to be successful in the music career like herself. “Stay close to your family. Without them, you wouldn’t be where you are today.”
