What happened in Vegas

Last Monday, Mrs. Copello, a science teacher and aspiring singer here at Osceola, came back triumphantly from a Las Vegas singing competition, placing in the top 20 in the pop category. The competition, lasting from September 16th to September 22nd, saw people come in from all over the country to compete with each other, with their singing talents.

“It’s always exciting as there are awesome singers there,” Mrs. Copello said about the competition.

Mrs. Copello has two loves: science and singing. Her major was in marine science, and since she gets to teach that, it makes her happy. At the same time however, she has a passion for singing. Although she is most comfortable with singing to rock songs, she will sing most anything, be it country, jazz, pop, or rock music. The songs she sings all depends on what mood she is in.

“The release of my emotions through song makes me feel good,” Mrs. Copello explained.

Mrs. Copello doesn’t look for fame or fortune out of the competitions: she goes to them because, in her own words, she is naturally competitive. Be it sports, games, or singing, she is competitive in them all alike. She goes to two or three singing competitions a year, and too many competitions overall for her to count. On stage, she is sometimes nervous, but is usually confident.
