This past weekend at the Certiport MS Word and Excel Expert certifications competition, Matt Cortez, 11th grade, won first place for desktop application programming. Ashlee Machie, 12th grade, won fifth place for spreadsheet applications (Excel) and another Osceola student, Makendra Baker, 12th grade, won fifth place for database design (Access). “If/when you see them congratulate them- they deserve it!” commented Ms. Thompson, FBLA Advisor.
On June 29th, 2013, only four students out of the entire state will represent Florida at the 2013 FBLA National Championship in Anaheim, California. Ashley and Matt are two of them, the other two are from Lakewood high school.
The top five in each event will be recognized on stage at the awards ceremony. The criteria for winning the event is based on the exam high score, and in case of any potential tie-breakers, the lowest exam time would win. The top winner in each category will be invited to compete at Certiport’s Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship in Washington D.C. on July 29-30, 2013.
