Schools have gone from chalk boards to white boards to now smart boards. Technology has evolved in schools over the years and now our school is using a new kind of technology. The math department and other teachers have recently started using barcodes that students can scan with their phones. To use the technology, though, the student must have a smart phone that either has an app or a program on the phone that can scan the barcodes. When they do this, their homework for the whole week will come up as a document. Mr. Gunnin, Algebra 2 teacher, said, “It will easily get the homework for the students.” Jessica Gonsalvaes, 10th grade, said, “It works because I’m on my phone a lot so it’s with me.” Other teachers that have been using this new way of providing homework to students are Mr. Morrison, Mrs. Lenning, and Mrs. Richey. Jessica said, “It’s right there for me to use the whole week.” Mr. Gunnin said, “I had kids taking pictures but they weren’t clear enough to read; now it’s a clear document,” about why this new technology is better than what they were doing before. Jessica said, “It’s so easy and simple to use.” Barcodes do not limit only homework being able to be scanned. Teachers could also have other documents that students could scan like class worksheets for example. Mr. Gunnin said, “Other than homework anything can be scanned on it.”
