While one Osceola English teacher spends her day teaching students literary masterpieces, her husband serves up his own masterpiece at USF St. Pete. Mrs. Herzhauser’s husband has made the Tampa Bay Times for his downtown St. Pete restaurant.
Mrs. Herzhauser is very proud of her husband, and often helps him out.
“Sometimes I make a guest appearance, usually in the scullery washing pots and pans. My two daughters work there, and he loves spending time with them and teaching them the business. All of our children have worked for him at some time during their lives. When he ran the kitchen at Newk’s in Tampa, my son washed dishes, bussed, and cooked. My eldest daughter hosted. Now our youngest two work at the Tavern. A family business.”
Mr. Herzhauser rarely cooks when he’s off the clock, but when company comes over he breaks out the cooking oil and a pan, and shows off his talent in the culinary arts, according to Mrs. Herzhauser.
She loves every meal her husband cooks.
“He can make tomato soup and grilled cheese a gourmet delight. As a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America, he knows his way around a knife, so everything is delicious.”
