“I love cooking, it has been a passion since I was little, I have always done it with my mom and dad” Said Rachael Piscitello, 10th grade, who represented OHS at the Region 4 skills U.S.A. which is a competition held every year to give students a chance to show off their skills in cooking. The competition was held at PTEC earlier this month with other schools around the area. Piscitello saw this as a huge achievement. “This was a big accomplishment for me I was the youngest competitor at the competition; everyone else was a senior.” Rachael has competed in the local competition that’s held at the Derby Lanes for the past 2 years so to be a part of this big competition was a challenge, but she pulled through. “We all had the same recipe; it was a house salad, cream of tomato soup, rice pilaf, sautéed chicken with gravy sauce and carrots with your own butter sauce.” Cooking is a passion of hers and will possibly become her career one day. “Yes of course I want to be a chef; I love to cook.” Because Rachael took first place at the regionals she will advance to the state competition April 28th– May 1st in Pensacola, Florida. Chef Smith comments on Rachael’s success “Rachael is an amazing culinarian, she is a natural born talent and extremely creative; I couldn’t be happier”
