The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards selects the best of the best art and literature pieces from the most creative students and OHS Warriors are some of the winners! They include 12th grade artists Ally Franzese and Ashley Brown.
Ally Franzese said her artwork: Crumpled Thought took about a month to complete and has received an honorable mention and a Gold Key. It is being evaluated in the 2nd level of judging in New York.
“The Gold Key is the highest award that you can get at this level of judging. If I win any of the gold or silver keys, I’ll be able to go to that ceremony (in New York),” said Franzese.
“All I know is that they are the highest achievement for the scholastics art show,” said Ashley Brown.
Ashley’s artwork: Sea Legs and Camo Coutoure [dress made from duct tape] each won a Gold Key, and are both being evaluated at the 2nd level of judging.
“The dress took like, two days. The clay box took like a month, because clay takes longer to mold,” said Brown.
In all, both artists are satisfied with a job well done:
“It’s been my biggest goal in high school to get the Gold Key award,” said Franzese.
“I’m really excited. It’s a big accomplishment. Right now we are in local judging and if I win a gold or silver in nationals, I can attend the award ceremony in New York,” said Brown.
