“Raytheon has promised that we’re going to be the first school this fall to be included in their first robotics program,” said Mr. Shepard, explaining Osceola’s up and coming robotics team. The team will consist of 10 students from Mr. Shepard’s Advanced Applications class and 2 alternates from the Engineering Tech classes. Raytheon will provide the OHS robotics team with the first team kit, mentors, and everything they are going to need to succeed. The team will be involved in local/regional competitions and if they finish in the top 25, they have the chance to go to state. “We will be notified in September what task and obstacles the team will overcome during the competition, and design the robot,” Mr. Shepard explained. “The steps to preparing for competitions include: Receiving the guidelines for the competition, things you can and cannot do during the competition, indentify any engineering problems, design, test, and modify the solution to the problem.” Team members will meet after school to prepare for the competition as well. “We will continue practicing with the robot, and attend competitions after school.” The name of OHS’ Robotics team will up to the members.
