You could win one!

You could win one!

Have you ever heard the old poem about the man from Peru who was eating his shoe? That’s called a limerick. If you can come up with something just as witty about the Pythagorean Theorem or maybe trigonometric equations, you could win a fancy new Casio 9860 GII Graphing Calculator donated by Mr. Gunnin.

You can enter one of two poem types: limericks and haikus. Limericks are usually humorous, and have an “AABBA” rhyme scheme

Haikus are different – haikus have no real rhyme pattern, but they do have a consistent syllable structure of five-seven-five, and are usually about nature. Take this for example:

                Leaves blow on the moor

                Lifting my spirit with them

                As they journey on.

Only in this contest they have to be about math.  Think back on your notes from this year and you’ll probably come up with something good.

But don’t wait, the deadline is April 27th.  Turn your entry in to any math teacher.
